The Provincial Health Authority of Ragusa (Italian: Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale di Ragusa – A.S.P. Ragusa) has been established on the 1st of September 2009. It is the public authority that safeguards and promotes the health of the people in the Province of Ragusa, in accordance with the principles and the objectives determined, at national and regional level, for health and social care.
It carries out prevention, medical care and recovery activities, in order to guarantee, to the citizens, the highest possible quality of life.
The six hospitals managed by the Authority yearly provide medical care to approximately 27000 patients under ordinary hospitalization and to 6800 day hospital patients. Furthermore, the Authority is structured into three territorial districts (Ragusa, Modica and Vittoria) that provide, on the other hand, prevention and rehabilitation services, including vaccinations, obstetric and pediatric care, by means of specialized outpatient clinics, for a total of nearly 250000 admissions.
The Provincial Health Authority of Ragusa has a staff of about 4000 employees and serves a population of approximately 300000 citizens.
It is organized into departments that manage the different medical branches, while departments are in turn organized into operative units.
The activity of the Authority is based on standards of efficacy, appropriateness, efficiency, equity and professionalism.
