Working in a territory of twelve Municipalities Info Ragusa, the Province of Ragusa is famous worldwide for its beauties and its ancient and historical monuments Photo Ragusa.
With his about fifty health offices in the territory, ASP Ragusa (Provincial Public Health Authority) with a staff of 3900 employees and a budget of 500.000.000€ is committed to achieve better health for everyone, everywhere for a population of 321.192 citizens which includes a high number of migrants. In fact, our Province is recognized as the gatekeeper in the Mediterranean sea with his importante hotspots in Pozzallo city, called HOTSPOT POZZALLO FRONTEX, Hotspot Pozzallo well equipped, staffed and organised that rescue and welcomes yearly thousand migrants:
- About 12.000 in 2017;
- About 4.300 in 2018;
- About 800 in 2019 because of the Salvini's law stopped the landings and closed the Italian ports until June 2019.

In addition to the hotspot, the company has six clinics in the area in which approximately 3,600 migrants are assisted each year (source: Asp Ragusa's immigration office)
In line with the noble principle of Universality which distinguishes the Italian Health System, together we strive to combat diseases – communicable diseases like influenza and HIV, and non-communicable diseases like cancer and heart disease. Our six hospitals, with their 659 used beds and others 216 beds to be put into operation, for a total of 875. The company also provide curative care yearly to almost 27.251 patients patients in ordinary hospitalization and 5.402 in day hospital (link 5)). A number of three Health Centres (called Districts) provide in the territory, closed with the Users, preventive and rehabilitative services, including vaccination, obstetrics, paediatric, etc. services through dedicated ambulatories with a total number of almost 250.000 attendances. Our services disseminated in the territory (http://app1.websanity.it) help mothers and children survive and thrive so they can look forward to a healthy old age. We ensure the safety of the air people breathe, the food they eat, the water they drink – and the medicines and vaccines they need. We cure and help everybody regardless their provenience, culture or economic status.
What we do
ASP Ragusa works in the province to promote health, keep people safe, and serve the vulnerable.
Our goal is to ensure that tenth of thousands of people have universal health coverage, to protect people from health emergencies, and provide people with better health and well-being.
For health coverage, we:
- focus on primary health care to improve access to quality essential services;
- improve access to essential medicines and health products;
- train the health workforce;
- support people's participation, involvement and empowerment;
- improve monitoring, data and information.
For health emergencies, we:
- prepare for emergencies by identifying, mitigating and managing risks;
- prevent emergencies and support development of tools necessary during outbreaks;
- detect and respond to acute health emergencies;
- support delivery of essential health services in fragile settings.
For health and well-being we:
- address social determinants;
- promote inter-sectorial approaches for health;
- prioritize health in local policies and healthy settings.
Through our work, we address:
- human capital across the life-course;
- non-communicable diseases prevention;
- mental health promotion;
- antimicrobial resistance;
- high-impact communicable diseases.
We have been running in the last 5 years almost hundreds heath projects and studies in all field of health, Regional, National and International. Our Data Collection Office stores data at 360° thanks to a permanent gathering system staffed with hundreds of doctors, health professionals, specialists in the technical, economic, administrative and legal affairs areas with an investment approximately of 1.000.000 € a year, specifically for 2018 the investment was equal to € 937.000.
