Livestock Farming and Zootechnical Production Hygiene Service (SIAPZ)

The "Livestock Farming and Zootechnical Production Hygiene" Service (SIAPZ) is an advanced division which operates within the Department of Veterinary Prevention.

The Service operates in the field of food safety safeguard, by performing control activities:

• on all the facilities in which production animals are bred, by assessing the clean conditions of animals, barns, milking parlors and the hygiene of the personnel;
• on the means of transport for live animals, in order to assess the sanitary conditions and the respect for animals welfare;
• on animals welfare conditions, during breeding, transportation and slaughtering;
• on livestock feeding and on the production and distribution of animal feed;
• on the proper use of veterinary medicinal products and on the observance of withdrawal periods, also including the monitoring of possible harmful effects that can arise both in animals and human beings, as a result of the regular administration of the medicinal products;
• on the administration of prohibited substances to animals (anabolics, hormones, thyrostatics etc.), which cause a non-physiological growth in animals and residues which are dangerous for the health of consumers;
• on analysis laboratories for veterinary diagnosis, on healthcare advertising and veterinary clinics;
• on the compliance with regulations and on the environmental protection measures related to animal by-products disposal;
• on animal breeding.
