Screening Management Center

The Screening Management Center performs activities in the field of secondary prevention in compliance with regional and national guidelines, by organizing and coordinating cancer screening plans for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer.

Cancer screening plans are a preventive action equitably provided by the Health Authority to all the people of the Province whose age is considered at risk for the onset of cancer. The participation of the target population is conscious and on a voluntary basis, and it is ensured by a diagnostic and treatment process which is free of charge. The voluntary participation to screenings does not require a medical prescription. Cancer screenings are considered Essential healthcare levels due to their effectiveness in reducing cancer-specific mortality rate and the incidence of advanced stage cancer.

Care process is complex, it is an example of a network organizational structure, which is constituted by an organizational-management part (Screening Management Center) and a clinical-operational part (Clinical representatives).

The Screening Management Center deals with:

• Organization of cancer screening plans and coordination of the operational and management facilities of the Province;
• Management of the dedicated software that can be accessed by the involved facilities and personnel;
• Organization and maintenance of the information system;
• Analysis of the available resources and services organization;
• Promotion of synergies between the involved facilities and personnel, creation of specific training courses for the personnel;
• Application of univocal and shared protocols;
• Collaboration with General Practitioners;
• Promotion of the importance of screening tests among the citizenry, sending of personalized invitation letters to the target population, which is a guarantee of equity for the access to screenings and diagnostic services;
• Assessment of the performance of started plans and accurate monitoring of the quality levels of the care provided;
