The Public Healthcare Laboratory has been established by Council Decree of 6th August 2004, published on the Official Gazette of Sicily Region Part I No. 35 of 2004. It represents the technical-scientific laboratory facility of reference of the Department of Prevention and it is at the service of Authorities and Institutions as official supervisory body. It performs the technical-analytical institutional duties pertaining the healthcare issues within its competence:
It performs the Official Control analysis on food and water intended for human consumption, and it operates according to a “Quality Management System”, in compliance with the European standard UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018.
Its primary activities are:- Infectious diseases prophylaxis;
- Control of food and beverage;
- Monitoring of water intended for human consumption;
- Monitoring of mineral and thermal waters;
- Monitoring of bathing waters;
- Monitoring of waters intended for recreational purposes;
- Monitoring of waters intended for shellfish farming and aquaculture;
- Narcotic drugs analysis;
- Living and working environments indoor controls;
- Legionella research.
The Public Healthcare Laboratory is accredited by ACCREDIA, Italian Accreditation Body, as testing laboratory, by Certificate No. 1855 L of 24th September 2020.
