Living Environments Hygiene Service

The Living Environments Hygiene Service deals with environment, citizenry and individuals health and hygiene safeguard, and monitors the potential presence of pollution risks.

It reviews municipal hygiene regulations and the health and hygiene aspects of the projects that regulate urban planning; it expresses assessment opinions on the health risks that derive from environmental pollutants; it collaborates with other Authorities and other figures of the Department of Prevention to develop epidemiological studies.

In order to protect citizens in their living environments, the Hygiene Service performs control and audit activities aimed at compliance opinions, permissions and authorizations issuing, by the means of inspections and samplings. It deals with sanitary and safety conditions of residential and production buildings, with particular reference to public ones.

It also organizes information and awareness campaigns, aimed at citizens and associations, on the risks related to accidents and pollutions; it organizes and participates to training, orientation and refresher courses for designers and consultants of entrepreneur categories.

The Living Environments Hygiene Service deals with:

• The level of hygiene of residences;
• Health and hygiene opinions for doctor’s offices and dentist’s offices – issue of health authorizations ratified by the Mayor;
• Health authorizations for clinics, health centers, private dialysis centers, autonomous outpatient surgery facilities and cosmetic surgery facilities;
• Mortuary police: death certificates issuing, disinterment, exhumations, fetal burial, hearses suitability;
• Consulting for commercial enterprises;
• Authorizations and renewals issue for businesses and ambulances;
• Monitoring of cosmetics and detergents production;
• Toxic gases;
• Protection of the population from ionizing radiations;
• Accomodation facilities authorizations and controls (hotels, boarding houses, vacation homes, retirement homes and the like; daycare centers, schools, activity centers for children, movie theaters, theaters, recreational activities);
• Legionnaires’ disease prevention and control;
• Controls in penitentiaries;
• Swimming pools monitoring;
• Authorities conferences (Civil Protection, Civil Engineering Office, Provincial Authority, Municipalities, Region);
• Public Entertainment Premises Commissions;
• Classification proposals for noxious factories;
• Construction hygiene;
• Sanitary problems in residences and public land;
• Preventive inspections for the opening of new pharmacies and parapharmacies and related biennial controls.
